Mary Morrison's work has a great sense of energy and movement. Her paintings incorporate lush, textural elements with complex, vibrant colorations. the pieces are mixed-media on panel, using mainly water-based paints, including acrylic, gouache, and casein. She uses collage papers, dripped lines, transfer prints and hand-carved stamps in building the painting. THese techniques, combined with her distinctive marks and paint applications give the works a rich and unique surface.

Her paintings have been acquired by the State of Colorado through the Art in Public Places Program, as well as many corporate collections. Most recent corporate collections include the La Costa Resort in San Diego, The Pinnacle Resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana, The Boulder Country Club, and the Broadmoor Hotel. The University of Colorado is also a recent collector with Morrison's paintings at the Anshutz Cancer Pavilion and the Behavioral Genetics Department at the Boulder Campus.

Mary Morrison lives and works in Denver, Colorado. She has a fine art degree from Colorado State University and has been painting full-time for fifteen years. She draws much of her imagery from nature, photographing on site and then working with the images in her studio. Morrison's paintings are about the process of creating a convincing surface more than depicting a specific subject matter. She looks to textural forms in the landscape: thickets, bushes, grasses, willows, floral masses; anything that shows a volume of different textures that she finds compelling. Her process consists of building the surface, beginning with large color movements, dripped lines, splattered paint. THis rather random way of laying out the painting drives the composition. The paintings deal with the organization one finds in nature; the patterns and repeated elements inherent in plant forms. The surfaces are complex, multi-layered, and richly colored.Mary Morrison's work has a great sense of energy and movement.
